Singapore – June 16, 2008 – SAMSUNG Electronics Co., Ltd., a leading mobile phone provider, today announced the launch of SAMSUNG OMNIA (model name: SGH-i900). It brings together high performance business content, top of the range style and a fun, dynamic multi-media experience, to ensure consumers are always connected both at home and at work.

OMNIA, meaning ‘everything’ in Latin and ‘wish’ in Arabic, goes beyond the current top-of-the-line features available in today’s mobile phones. The OMNIA will be available to the market from June 2008.

Bringing a PC environment to Mobile

The new SAMSUNG OMNIA allows users to switch seamlessly between Microsoft Outlook email and productivity applications that replicate the look and feel of their PC – with a stroke of their finger.

Based on the most up to date Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional operating system, SAMSUNG OMNIA gives users a mobile extension to their PC experience, with access to MS Office documents such as PowerPoint, Excel and Word. Users can also send and receive email and manage their appointments in Outlook while on the go. The Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional operating system means users can download additional programmes as they would on their PC and customise it for their individual needs. For ease of navigation an optical mouse similar to those on laptop computers offers improved usability and one-handed control.

Vivid, lively multimedia experience

SAMSUNG OMNIA delivers the ultimate in digital entertainment thanks to a wide 3.2-inch WQVGA LCD screen for viewing videos and slide shows in high-resolution and advanced audio capabilities. MultiCodec support for DivX, Xvid and other video formats eliminates the hassle of file format conversions. Users also have the assurance of a long-life detachable battery for extended playback.

SAMSUNG OMNIA also comes with a five-megapixel CMOS camera with the latest value-added features, which include auto-focus (AF), face and smile detection and auto-panorama shot.

Sony Cyber-shot DSC-T20 
 
Sony’s T series is known for its dedication to slender frames and slide-open simplicity.
The DSC-T20 continues this tradition with a streamline aesthetic.

The T20 is powered by an 8.1-megapixel sensor. As usual, this Cyber-shot features a Carl Zeiss lens featuring 3x optical zoom, Super SteadyShot and what Sony calls a Stamina battery for up to 380 shots per charge.

Other features included are a face detection tool that ensures sharp, better focused faces in photos and high ISO sensitivity of up to ISO 3200.

Sony has also redesigned its menus to make them look cool.

The flash range has improved slightly from past models, but is still weaker than I care for.

Take a party shot any greater than 2m from your subject, and it’s going to look like you took the shot in a cave.

Also, one of my complaints about the T9 that I own is the amount of red-eye that shows up.

Even with red-eye reduction turned on in the T20, there were still many instances of this problem. Images outdoors were excellent, as is usual for a Cyber-shot.
FINAL SAY

The T20 is a simple-to-use digital camera that is pretty both inside and outside, and captures good shots. But it is a tad overweight for its target audience. If you want a fashionable camera, put this on your list.

Samsung i600 : The Ultra Messaging – it is pretty clear that the SGH-i600 is targeted at SMS and e-mail addicts.Credit goes to the phone?s easy-to-use Qwerty keyboard that takes up major real estate on the front of the unit.Its a perfect messaging device.

The i600?s design is reminiscent of BlackBerries, except that the i600 ? very light at 105g ? is also slimmer (11.8mm) and more stylish.

There is a front-facing camera, and the device supports two-way video calling. There’s also a 1.3 megapixel camera on the back that shoots stills at resolutions up to 1,280 by 960.

MP3 playback (MP3/WMA/AAC/AAC+ formats) over the included earphones sounded good too, almost on par with standalone MP3 players.

Samsung suggests you will get up to 6.5 hours of talk on a 2G connection or 3.5 hours on 3G, and up to 300 hours of standby on 3G or 305 hours on 2G.

My battery rundown test involving asking the SGH-i600 to play music continuously from a full charge with its screen forced to stay on delivered 9 hours and 10 minutes of battery life. The second low battery warning came after 8 hours 55 minutes, and which point the device turned music playback off and also disabled the SIM to preserve the remaining battery life for as long as possible.

Overall, the SGH-i600 is a perfectly acceptable choice. It doesn’t offer anything special, although some of the software extras are useful. The keyboard, 3G/HSDPA support and Picsel viewer may be enough to endear it to mobile email users.

Samsung’s SGH-i600 is a decent keyboard-equipped Windows Mobile 5 smartphone with HSDPA, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth all present. In short its a pretty decent handphone.The i600 has one of the easiest to use Qwerty keyboards that I have come across. Highly recommended if you send SMS messages or e-mail frequently on your phone.

I have bought myself a Sony PSP. This is considered a late entry post for my Sony PSP slim.
 
Sony’s smallest HAND-HELD gaming device. The new PSP is one-third lighter and one-fifth thinner than the current version. It also has a longer battery life and a video outport for connecting to a TV.

The device was game-oriented and it followed the traditional PlayStation buttons. The joystick, however, that was present on Dual-Shock controllers was shortened and reduced to one joystick for PSP. The PSP went out not only for games. The PSP is actually a multimedia powerhouse wherein other than playing games, you could also play your favorite video clips in MP4 format, play your favorite music in MP3 format and WMA and store and view your memorable pictures in the Memory Stick Duo.

Overall the device was excellent, especially if you are the person who wants every bit of entertainment on one device. Even though this was just an observer’s review, the gameplay, music, video and the rest, despite the disadvantages, is perfect. 5-star rating for PSP Slim and Lite.

*Modified in terms of Operating System version. Most of the systems were modified to play games that are not played via UMD or the game disk but the game is played, instead, on the memory card. Most versions released by Sony cannot read the game files from the Memory stick and modifiers upgrade to modified version so that the device can read games from the Memory Stick.

The Slingbox is a TV streaming device that enables users to remotely view their cable, satellite, or personal video recorder (PVR) programming from an Internet-enabled computer with a broadband Internet connection. It is produced by Sling Media of San Mateo, California.

A Slingbox connects a TV source (via coaxial cable, composite cables, component cables, or S-video cable) to an existing Internet connection. Digital video recorders and cable or satellite set top boxes can be controlled through a separate infrared (IR) cable that lets users change channels from the remote location. Software on a user’s computer or mobile device connects to the Slingbox and provides the user interface for viewing the video stream and changing channels. Onscreen virtual remote controls are provided for controlling almost all connected devices.
